There’s a good reason to insist on the original here. The Xbox AV connector is a tight, chunky plug, and the cheap aftermarket cables flooding the market use thin conductors and loose housings that produce noisy, washed-out picture and drop audio when the cable moves. A genuine Microsoft cable just works.

Installation
Difficulty: Easy. Push the AV plug fully into the console’s AV port until it seats, then connect yellow to video-in and red/white to audio-in on your TV. No soldering, no tools, no console disassembly. Under a minute.
Compatibility
Fits all Original Xbox revisions: 1.0 through 1.6b. Every Original Xbox uses the same AV port.
Outputs composite video only (480i) over the yellow RCA. It will not give you S-Video, RGB SCART, component or 480p — those need a different cable entirely.
Wat er door die stekker gaat. De Xbox heeft één AV-aansluiting van 24 pinnen waar alles doorheen loopt: composiet, S-Video, component en RGB, plus analoge stereo én digitale S/PDIF-audio.
De console herkent zelf welke kabel erin zit. In de stekker zitten drie herkenningspinnen. Elke kabelsoort legt daar een eigen combinatie op, en daaraan ziet de console of hij composiet of component moet uitsturen. Daarom hoef je niets in te stellen — en daarom geeft een kabel die die pinnen niet goed doortrekt geen beeld of het verkeerde formaat, ook al past hij prima.
En op een 1.6? Die revisie heeft een andere video-encoder (Xcalibur) en staat bekend om problemen met 480p bij sommige spellen. Composiet is 480i en heeft daar niets mee te maken; over composiet op een 1.6 valt niets bijzonders te melden.
Waarom kabelkwaliteit hier uitmaakt. Beeld dat af en toe wegvalt komt op de Xbox vaak door de kabel of de aansluiting: blaas de poort en de stekker eerst schoon met perslucht en sluit opnieuw aan. Blijft het gebeuren, dan is een goedkope componentkabel een bekende oorzaak. Dat is precies de reden om hier niet de allergoedkoopste te nemen.

Frequently asked questions
Will this give me 480p or HD? No. This is a composite cable — 480i only. For progressive scan or HD modes you need a component or VGA-capable cable and a game that supports the mode.
Does it work on a modern TV? If your TV still has a yellow/red/white composite input, yes. Many recent sets have dropped them, in which case you'll need a converter.
Is this the same as an Xbox 360 AV cable? The connectors are related but the cables are not identical. We sell a 360-type cable adapted for the Original Xbox separately — see Related.
