Xbox Softmodding Kit — the no-soldering mod
USB stick pre-loaded with Rocky5’s Xbox Softmodding Tool plus a USB-to-Xbox adapter. That is the complete hardware side of softmodding; the rest is on-screen. Works on every revision from 1.0 to 1.6b, requires a console that boots on its original hard drive, and is fully reversible. Difficulty: easy, provided you follow the steps in order. Set of motherboard capacitors — the longevity job
The electrolytic capacitors on a 20-year-old motherboard are past their design life. Symptoms of tired caps: video that goes unstable after the console warms up, random reboots, or a machine that only behaves once it’s been on for ten minutes. This set replaces them. The product page lists compatibility with motherboard versions 1.0/1.1, 1.4 and 1.6.
⚠️ This is an advanced job. Desoldering electrolytics from a multi-layer board with large ground planes needs a temperature-controlled iron, decent flux and patience. Too much heat lifts pads and you’ll be repairing traces instead of installing capacitors. If you’ve never done it, this is not the board to learn on.
Note the name: the clock capacitor is not in this set, on purpose. The clock cap is a separate problem with a different answer — usually removal rather than replacement. The clock capacitor guide explains why, and it is the first thing you should check on any 1.0–1.5 console.

If the console is unmodded and you want it to do more: softmod kit. If it’s a keeper and you want it to still be running in ten years: check the clock capacitor first, then the capacitor set, then cooling. Repair before features — a modded console with a leaking clock cap is still a console that’s destroying itself.
