A perished drive belt is the single most common reason an Original Xbox DVD tray refuses to open, opens halfway, or grinds and retracts. Rubber that has spent twenty years in a warm console goes slack and glazed, and no amount of cleaning brings it back. This is a replacement belt for that job.

Installation
Difficulty: Moderate. Not because it is technically hard, but because you have to get the drive out of the console and the top cover off the drive without snapping the tray latches. Tools: Torx driver for the housing, small Phillips for the drive, tweezers. No soldering. Time: 20-30 minutes.
Remove the DVD drive, take the metal lid off, slip the old belt off the pulley and motor spindle, degrease both with isopropyl alcohol, fit the new belt, test the tray by hand before you close anything up.
Compatibility
The Original Xbox shipped with drives from several manufacturers — Thomson, Samsung, Philips and Hitachi-LG — and the tray mechanisms are not identical between them.
Drive family is determined by the drive, not by the motherboard revision, so revision 1.0 through 1.6b is not the deciding factor here.

Maat. De riem verschilt per drivemerk. Voor een Thomson is de gevouwen lengte 55 mm. Voor Philips, Samsung en Hitachi is geen algemeen gepubliceerde maat bekend; meet de oude riem gevouwen op als je twijfelt.
Voordat je vervangt: maak hem eerst schoon. Zet de console uit, duw een paperclip in het gaatje onder de lade en de drive springt open. Haal de riem er met een pincet af, veeg hem af met een doek en maak de tandwielen schoon met alcohol op een wattenstaafje. Vaak is dat genoeg. Werkt de lade daarna nog niet, dan is de riem echt op.

Will it fit a non-Xbox drive? Possibly, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with every drive on the market — measure your old belt first.
